Since 2023, Sophie Lücke has been professor of double bass at the Lübeck University of Music and principal double bassist with the Ensemble Resonanz in Hamburg.
Her love of music began in Wernigerode, where she received her first double bass lessons from Andreas Nettels. Her studies lead her to Berlin to Janne Saksala and London to Rinat Ibragimov.
Suggestions from Esko Laine, Nabil Shehata, Klaus Stoll, Joel Quarrington and Evgeny Kolosov, as well as courses in historical performance practice with Kristin von der Goltz and Reinhard Goebel broadened her musical views.
At the age of 20, Sophie became a scholarship holder of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and two years later became a principal double bassist of the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Years followed as a guest solo bassist in large symphony orchestras, before finally getting to know the theater landscape as principal bassist of the Gärtnerplatztheater from 2014-2023.
In 2013/2014 she taught at the University of Arts in Bern and gave master classes in São Paulo, México City, Hong Kong and Pyongyang.
Through constant music-making in ensembles such as the Basel Chamber Orchestra, Les Siecles, Les Dissonance, Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Bremen Chamber Philharmonic, the Scottish and Mahler Chamber Orchestras or at festivals such as in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Davos or Zermatt, Sophie came back to her roots of the ensemble – and chamber music playing.
In recent years, an increased interest in contemporary music has arisen, particularly through regular collaboration with the Klangforum Wien. Working with composers like G.Aperghis, R.Saunders, B.Furrer or H.Lachenmann and conductors like E.Pomarico and B.Wiegers inspire and enrich her live sustainably.
She became a founding member of the Ensemble der/gelbe/klang for current music in Munich.
A highlight of 2023 was a 90-minute musical theater premiere by Georges Aperghis at the Ruhrtriennale for 5 musicians.
In 2025, Sophie is particularly looking forward to her debut at the Schubertiade with the Aris Quartet and the Monet Quintet.
