Matthieu Gauci-Ancelin

Born in Paris, Matthieu Gauci-Ancelin studied with Sophie Cherrier and Vincent Lucas at Conservatoire de Paris, and at the Karajan Academy of Berlin Philharmonic orchestra with Andreas Blau. He received at that time also precious advices from Emmanuel Pahud who became one of his mentors. ​

Kirill Petrenko appointed him principal Flute of the Komische Oper Berlin at the age of 21. Matthieu hold later the same position at Swedish Radio symphony Orchestra with Daniel Harding. He also plays regularly as guest principal Flute with Berlin Philharmonic, as well as with London Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Saito Kinen Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra and many others. ​

As a soloist, Matthieu performed with many orchestras including Prague Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Kammerorchester, Sinfonia Varsovia, orchestra of the Komische Oper, with conductors such as Markus Poschner, Henrik Nanasi, Pietari Inkinen or Sir Roger Norrington.

He is also an active chamber musician, and was lucky to play with Elena Bashkirova, Francois Dumont, Adam Laloum, Nathalia Milstein, Lars Vogt, Anton Barakhovsky, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Lucas Macias Navarro, Maurice Bourgue, Marielle Nordmann, Trio Jacob, and the Modigliani Quartett. ​

A passionate teacher, he is Professor at university of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria, and taught at Hanns Eisler Berlin from 2017 to 2019.

As part of a cd/dvd production with Deutsche Grammophon, he recorded a concerto of G.F. Handel for flute and English horn with Albrecht Mayer and the Sinfonia Varsovia.
