Anna Garzuly-Wahlgren is Professor of Flute at the “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig, having previously held the same position at the University of Music “ Franz Liszt” in Weimar. After studying in Budapest, Munich and New York, she was a long-time member, associate and principal flutist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig.
She is an internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician and has won prizes at a number of major international music competitions, including Geneva, Scheveningen, Kobe, Markneukirchen and Budapest.
As a soloist, she has performed with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Herbert Blomstedt and Riccardo Chailly, among others. As a chamber musician and soloist, she has worked with the Sabine Meyer Ensemble, the Linos Ensemble, the Gewandhaus Octet, the “armonia” ensemble, the New Bach Collegium Musicum and the Munich and Leipzig Chamber Orchestras, among others.
Anna is a founding member of the renowned Leipzig flute ensemble “Quintessenz”.
Her versatility in musical styles and the colourfulness of her playing are internationally recognized and she can be heard on several excellent orchestral and chamber music recordings.
