Born in Freiburg, the soprano possesses an exceptionally diverse repertoire, in which she is continually driven by a search for truthful music-making, artistic individuality and the vocal possibilities of different musical eras.
Since 2023, she has been a lecturer at the University of the Arts Berlin.
She has given masterclasses in Spain (Barcelona) and in Argentina (Buenos Aires).
She studied with Prof. Thomas Quasthoff in Detmold and completed her concert exam with Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne. She also attended masterclasses with Dunja Véjzovic, Margreet Honig and Christoph Prégardien; she has maintained a long-standing vocal collaboration with Kammersängerin Brigitte Eisenfeld.
Sophie Klußmann is a prizewinner of the Mozart Competition in Würzburg and of the Trude Eipperle Foundation.
Conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Christoph Eschenbach, Marek Janowski, Ingo Metzmacher, Marcus Bosch and Helmuth Rilling invite her to perform in both classical and contemporary programs.
Ensembles such as the Scharoun Ensemble have chosen her as a chamber music partner, and she is a regular guest at international chamber music festivals. In the field of early music, she has worked with Václav Luks, Marcus Creed and Attilio Cremonesi, and has recorded for Harmonia Mundi with the Akademie für Alte Musik.
Numerous CD recordings reflect her love of art song. In 2024, Grete von Zieritz’s orchestral songs were released on Hänssler Classic; in 2025, her duo album “Chansons & Frottole” with lutenist Hopkinson Smith was released on naïve; and in 2026, her album “Flowers we are” featuring songs by György Kurtág, Johannes Brahms and Anton Webern will be released on Odradek.
Sophie has performed Mozart concert arias with Martin Haselböck and the Wiener Akademie in cities such as Vienna, Versailles, New York and São Paulo. In 2025, she sang Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder at the Whitsun Festival in Brunegg, Switzerland.
World premieres by renowned composers such as Christian Jost, Stefano Gervasoni and Xavier Dayer, as well as contemporary repertoire in general, are a permanent part of Sophie Klußmann’s concert calendar. She was a member of the ensemble at Oper Halle and has appeared as a guest at the Komische Oper Berlin, the Staatstheater Cottbus and the Grand Theatre of Beijing, China.
