Georg Poplutz

Georg Poplutz, a tenor highly regarded for his tonal sensitivity and expressive artistry in both Lied and oratorio repertoire, is one of today’s most sought-after interpreters of Baroque music and is considered “one of the best Evangelists of our time.” He performs at renowned festivals and in major churches and concert halls in Germany and abroad, including in China, Georgia, Mexico, Singapore, and South Africa. His collaborators include Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, Felix Koch, Rudolf Lutz, Ralf Otto, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Andrzej Szadejko, Michael Willens, and Roland Wilson.

Poplutz has appeared as a soloist in numerous radio productions and on roughly 120 CDs. Among them are cantatas recorded with the Bach Foundation St. Gallen under Rudolf Lutz, as well as cantatas and oratorios by D. Pucklitz, Ch. Graupner, C. Loewe, and G. Ph. Telemann, along with many works included in the complete Heinrich Schütz edition conducted by Hans-Christoph Rademann. The latter project was awarded the “Opus Klassik” prize in 2020. In 2022, he released two solo albums: Ich bin mit Gott vergnügt – zuversichtlich durch die Zeiten (Baroque cantatas, with the Telemann Ensemble Frankfurt and Andreas Köhs on organ) and Das ist meine Freude – Liebeslieder, Jubel- und Psalmgesang im 17. Jahrhundert (with the Johann Rosenmüller Ensemble and Arno Paduch on cornett).

Poplutz is also passionately devoted to art song. In concerts and recordings, he appears with his long-time Lied pianist Hilko Dumno, as well as with Asendorf & Hladek (guitars), Jürgen Banholzer (organ), and the Eliot Quartet, performing a broad Lied repertoire. Recent releases include Nur über uns die Linde rauscht, featuring songs set to Eichendorff texts with Rudolf Lutz on piano (2023), and Kannst Du das Lied verstehn?, a collection of songs about flowers and trees with soprano Catalina Bertucci and pianist Tatjana Dravenau (2025).

Georg Poplutz grew up in Arnsberg (Westphalia). After completing his teaching degree in Münster and Dortmund, he studied voice in Frankfurt am Main and Cologne with Berthold Possemeyer and Christoph Prégardien. He was a scholarship recipient of Yehudi Menuhin’s “Live Music Now” foundation and was awarded the Frankfurt Mendelssohn Special Prize in 2009. He receives vocal guidance from Carol Meyer-Bruetting.
