Stephanie Winker received her first musical training at the music school in Tübingen and with Gaby Pas-van Riet in Stuttgart.
After graduating from the Freie Waldorfschule Tübingen, she went to New York on a scholarship to study with Jeanne Baxtresser and received a Bachelor of Music from the Juilliard School in 2000. In Berlin, she completed her training with a diploma and concert exam at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music with Eberhard Grünenthal and Jacques Zoon. At the same time, she began her orchestral career, which took her from the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen to the Berlin State Opera via the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and finally to the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, where she worked from 2004 to 2014 and with which she also performed as a soloist on several occasions.
Since moving to the HfMDK Frankfurt, where she has been a professor since 2013, she has performed regularly as a guest with orchestras in Germany and Europe and is increasingly devoting herself to chamber music.
She has given concerts at festivals such as Schleswig Holstein, Tanglewood (USA), Kuhmo (Finland), Rheingau and Davos and regularly performs with her wind quintet Ma’alot in Germany, Europe, Asia and America. In 2006 and 2010, the ensemble received Echo Klassik awards for its Dvorak and Rossini recordings, and its two CDs with pianist Markus Becker were also unanimously praised by critics.
Since 2012, she has also been the artistic director of the Volkenroda Summer Concerts, a chamber music festival focussing on the connection between architecture and music.
She gives masterclasses in Germany and abroad, including at the Villa Musica in Schloss Engers, the Starnberg Music Days, the Forum Artium and the Seefeld Music Days in Austria.
Stephanie Winker lives in Stuttgart with her husband and three children.
