Herbert Vieth (1951-2024)
Founder of the academy
Herbert Vieth studied school and church music as well as conducting in Cologne, Aachen and Frankfurt with Helmuth Rilling, among others, and was cantor at the basilica in Rheine/Westphalia from 1975 to 1988. As a soloist, member of several ensembles and conductor of the Bach-Collegium Osnabrück, the Bach-Choir Georgsmarienhütte, the North German Vocal Ensemble and the Camerata Vocale der Tage Alter Musik, he has performed throughout Germany and in England, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Russia and Israel, participated in radio, television and recordings and was the first prize winner in the German Orchestra Competition with the Bach-Collegium.
In 1987, he received a scholarship from the German Music Council for a conducting seminar with Leonard Bernstein. In 1988, he founded the Forum Artium Academy and at the same time the Festival Tage Alter Musik, MUSICA VIVA since 2004, of which he has been the planner and artistic director ever since. In 2005, Herbert Vieth was honoured with the cultural prize of the Landschaftsverband Osnabrücker Land for his great cultural commitment.
