Andrea Lieberknecht is currently a professor at the Munich University of Music, where she herself studied 30 years ago. In the meantime, she has held various positions: still a bachelor student she became solo flutist in the BR radio orchestra in Munich. From there she moved to Cologne in 1991, where she held the solo flute position in the WDR symphony orchestra for 11 years. She was also principal flute with the Bayreuth Richard Wagner Festival. When she got professor at the Hannover University of Music, she decided to give up her active orchestral life and to pass on her experience to the younger generation of flutists.
Andrea Lieberknecht has won important flute competitions, including the International Flute Competition in Kobe/Japan in 1993 and the International Flute Competition “Prague Spring” in 1991. With the Arcis Quintet and as a duo with her pianist Jan-Philip Schulze, she has won renowned competitions such as the ARD Competition and the chamber music competitions in Colmar and Belgrade.
Since then she has led a rich concert life with recitals, solo concerts and chamber music. She has been a guest at important music festivals such as the Ansbach Bach Festival, Rheingau Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Festival and the Würzburg Mozart Festival and played at famous chamber music festivals of the pianists Lars Vogt (“Spannungen: Musik im Kraftwerk Heimbach”) and Leif Uve Andsnes in Risør/Norway. She has performed chambermusic with the clarinettist Sabine Meyer at the Lucerne Festival, at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Bukarest Enesco Festival, and many more.
