Gesine Dreyer began playing the harp with Prof Julie Raines at the age of 11. She discovered her love of playing in the orchestra early on in the North German youth orchestras and was supported by the pre-college at the Lübeck University of Music. She studied harp at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater with Prof. Julie Raines and Prof. Maria Graf. During her studies, she played with the “Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival Orchester”, the “Junge Deutsche Philharmonie”, and was a prizewinner at the “Deutschen Hochschulwettbewerb”.
After a temporary contract with the “Opernhaus- und Museumsorchester Frankfurt”, she was the principal harpist of the Philharmonischen Orchesters Kiel from 1994 to 2001.
In 2000 Gesine Dreyer started teaching at universities. She worked as an honorary professor at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin for 20 years. Gesine Dreyer is professor for harp at the University of Music Lübeck since 2010. Her pupils and students are prizewinners in national and international competitions, such as the national competition “Jugend Musiziert” or the competitions in Szeged, Porto, and Wales. They perform in the state and federal youth orchestras as well as the SHMF and EUY orchestras.
She works regularly as a freelancer for the “Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen”, the “Ensemble Resonanz”, as well as other North German orchestras. Gesine Dreyer also performs as a chamber musician, for example with colleagues from the Musikhochschule Lübeck.
