Herbert Vieth

Herbert Vieth studied school and church music as well as conducting in Cologne, Aachen and Frankfurt with Helmuth Rilling, among others, and was cantor at the basilica in Rheine/Westphalia from 1975 to 1988. As a soloist, member of several ensembles and conductor of the Bach-Collegium Osnabrück, the Bach-Choir Georgsmarienhütte, the North German Vocal Ensemble and the Camerata Vocale der Tage Alter Musik, he has performed throughout Germany and in England, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Russia and Israel, participated in radio, television and recordings and was the first prize winner in the German Orchestra Competition with the Bach-Collegium.
In 1987, he received a scholarship from the German Music Council for a conducting seminar with Leonard Bernstein. In 1988, he founded the Forum Artium Academy and at the same time the Festival Tage Alter Musik, MUSICA VIVA since 2004, of which he has been the planner and artistic director ever since. In 2005, Herbert Vieth was honoured with the cultural prize of the Landschaftsverband Osnabrücker Land for his great cultural commitment.

Goetz Phillip Körner
Managing Director

Phillip Körner grew up in Lengerich and received extensive musical education with cello, piano and singing lessons. After leaving school and an intermezzo as a double bass player in the air force music corps in Münster, he went to study in Hanover, where he graduated as an opera soloist and singing teacher. After guest engagements at the Hildesheim Theatre and the Hanover and Hamburg State Operas, he concentrated on concert and oratorio work and performed as a freelance soloist in Germany and abroad for 15 years. These activities have taken him for example to the Elbphilharmonie, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Pantheon in Rome, Tokyo and across China and foreign countries. He also worked closely with the NDR vocal ensemble, where he often sang as a freelancer. In addition to his musical activities, he studied cultural management at the Leibniz University of Hannover and founded a concert agency.
Phillip Körner has long been associated with the FORUM artium. As a 16-year-old, he sang here in the Bach Choir under the direction of Herbert Vieth, then worked for several years on the organisational staff of the MUSICA VIVA Festival and attended several masterclasses as a participating singer. He has been working at FORUM artium since 2022 and was appointed Managing Director at the end of 2023.
