ABOUT US

As a non-profit organisation, FORUM artium has been running a study centre since 1989, which is dedicated to promoting musical art and culture and in particular to holding masterclasses and seminars under the direction of internationally renowned musicians and university professors. Since then, more than 20,000 musicians from all over the world have taken part in around forty to fifty international courses at the academy each year to be taught by high-calibre lecturers from all over Europe and prepare for a career as a musician. The courses often end with an academy concert, usually on the last evening of the course. On the one hand, this allows participants to practise performing, and on the other, the FORUM artium wants to open its doors to the local public. Admission is always free, and donations collected are used to award scholarships for masterclasses.

The Forum artium

In the historic atmosphere of a listed, stylishly furnished house from the turn of the century, the Forum Artium offers ideal conditions for stimulating study and seminar stays.

Up to 20 people can be accommodated in the 10 rooms, all of which are equipped with a shower and WC. The in-house kitchen provides participants with breakfast, lunch, coffee/cake and dinner (vegetarian food also available on request).

In addition to the institute’s own courses, the house is also rented out to musical and other groups.

The following rooms are also available:
Chamber music hall (approx. 100 square meters) with control room (video, sound recording and playback equipment), five seminar rooms, library and phonoteque, dining room, lounge.

Sanitation

Thanks to the generous support of the Sparkasse Foundation and the “city of Georgsmarienhütte”, the Forum Artium has been extensively renovated and the spatial concept expanded in recent years:

– Renovation of the exterior masonry and the house foundations
– Redesign of the outdoor facilities
– Renovation of all windows and doors
– Renewal of the heating system
– Complete refurbishment of all living areas

– Redesign/expansion of the room concept in the entire basement
– Creation of additional practice and work rooms
– Creation of a recreation room
– Refurbishment of the existing instruments
– Acquisition of a new concert grand piano
